Arlington Nesting Baskets

Surrounding children with beautiful, natural and handcrafted materials is more important than ever. These sturdy baskets can be used by adults or children to store and cart and display and carry and measure volumes of play materials. They may also become hats or houses or tractors or nests. They are made for play.

Strong and practical with low, straight sides and strong integrated handles, this versatile classic rattan rectangular basket is the perfect combination of functionality and design.

Made from Kubu rattan, a sustainable species of cane that grows abundantly and wild throughout South East Asia. After harvesting, it is sun dried and then soaked in a natural water bath, which makes it pliable for weaving and produces the distinctive, warm colour.

Designed to make a difference to communities and the environment, Wicka work in partnership with talented fair trade artisans from around the world, preserving time honoured traditional techniques passed down through generations.

This item is handcrafted in Indonesia.

Available in a set of 3

Small: 36 cm x 26cm x 14.5 high

Medium: 43 cm x 33 cm x 17cm high

Large: 50 cm x 40 cm x 21cm high

Made by hand using natural materials, each piece is unique. It is normal for hand crafted products to vary slightly in size, so to be safe please allow a variance in the quoted product dimensions of 15% when making a decision for your space.

Product Care

Due to the natural rigidity of Kubu cane and the structural tension that occurs at right angles, splitting at the corners of square/rectangular baskets is a common and expected characteristic. This does not affect the integrity or durability of the basket and is considered a normal aspect of working with natural, handwoven materials and not considered a fault.

Clean with a damp cloth with soapy water in the same direction of any rows. Wipe down with a dry cloth until completely dry. Keep in a dry place. Direct sunlight may cause fading.

As with all things, natural, handcrafted materials will age with wear and time. At the end of their life, these baskets can be composted or deconstructed for use by children in the creation and exploration of new things.
