Our Story

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” - Rumi

Our story begins with a big heart, a small chisel and a piece of fallen eucalyptus.

Carving a timber bowl with a group of children was a simple process that led to profound learning for Urban Discovery founder and director Jenn Reed.
Inclusive play, experiential learning, consideration of land, language development, social capacity and motor skills were all present as, over several days, the children worked together to accomplish this project.

A small garden area with a large cut log, decorative rocks, a small tree with green leaves, a stone sculpture water feature, and two chairs with cushions.

An educator with 20 years experience, Jenn began exploring how nature rich environments impact children’s learning, development, social behaviours, confidence and joy. Eager to bring the benefits of such environments to more children, Jenn completed a degree in Landscape Design and went on to establish Urban Discovery in 2010.

Since then, Jenn has gathered together a collective of passionate educators, landscape architects and artists, all committed to creating environments in which children thrive.

Together we have established a specialised company offering consultation, design and construction for organisations who wish to incorporate natural landscapes as a foundational aspect of education, therapy and best practice service.

We work with education services, social enterprise and community initiatives to design and create exceptional play spaces which invite curiosity, wonder and delight in children and in adults.

We hope to weave your story into ours. And together impact the lives of children well into the future.
