Two Rivers Community School
Muluridji Country
Far North Queensland
A vast, undeveloped plot of land, scattered with iconic Ghost Gums and intersected by winding creeks was the site for this new school project in Far North Queensland. Urban Discovery was engaged to design a nature-based play space that would complement the newly constructed, architecturally designed, eco-conscious primary and secondary school buildings.
Our team travelled interstate to meet with the clients, future students, and the wider community. This on-site engagement allowed us to develop a deeply informed design brief that thoughtfully integrated both pedagogical and design perspectives. Insights were drawn from a series of conversations and collaborative workshops with all key stakeholders.
Key design considerations included regenerative farming principles, site restoration, Indigenous cultural connections, the concept of a children’s village, therapeutic design elements, and Islamic Garden Design principles with symbolism reflective of the landscape and school’s culture.
